Sedation Dentistry

Does the mere thought of going to the dentist fill you with fear? You’re not alone. According to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), 25 million Americans avoid dental visits because of fear and anxiety. You need to take care of your teeth, but how do you address the feelings of dread? With sedation dentistry from Dr. Wiese, you can put aside your fears and face dental visits with confidence.

Dr. Wiese has the skill and advanced training to administer oral and IV sedation in our Garland office. At your sedation dentistry consultation, the doctor will evaluate your needs, discuss the procedures you need performed, and review your medical history. Then he’ll recommend the type of sedation that he feels best meets your needs.

Oral Sedation

One small pill taken prior to your appointment eases tension to create a sense of calm and wellbeing. (You’ll take the pill before you leave home, so please have someone drive you to and from our office.) Once you’re comfortably situated in a treatment room, Dr. Wiese will perform your dental work. You won’t be “under,” but you will feel intensely relaxed, both mentally and physically. Oral sedation diminishes gradually. Patients typically resume normal activities the evening of their appointment.

IV Sedation

The deepest form of sedation we offer, IV sedation involves calming medication delivered directly into the bloodstream. We’ll monitor you throughout your sedation dentistry appointment to make sure you’re comfortable and at ease. Like oral sedation, IV sedation induces a deep sense of relaxation without putting patients “out.” The sedating effects diminish at a gradual pace to let you get back to your normal routine the day following your appointment.

Sedation dentistry allows Dr. Wiese to potentially complete many procedures in a single office visit and reverse the effects of accumulated dental damage. Time flies while you’re under sedation, and you won’t experience any memory of treatment details. Sedation dentistry is ideal for anxious patients and for those who want to complete their dental work in a minimum number of visits.
